I was very tired when I wrote this last night... so I just added a few things...

I don't know how many of you know this, but John and I moved to Philly. (Well... close to Philly.) He's going to school and I'm doing my acupuncture thing and Kevin's actually touring Europe right now with some Jazz dudes. So when we found out a couple of weeks ago that we were playing with The Queers at Mercury Lounge we found ourselves a Philly band!

John and I drove up last night to watch Trailer Park Boys (which is a whole nother story) and Karl and Rob drove in today. We actually rehearsed before hand at our old rehearsal space in the Lower East Side, (made famous by an episode of "Cheaters,") then moseyed on over to San Loco for some very tasty and well deserved bean burritos. Then off to Mercury Lounge we went!

I gotta tell you, it was such an honor to play tonight with both The Apers and The Queers. They were FANTASTIC. We were on first, but that didn't stop us from rocking everyone's face off. The sound at Mercury is awesome and it was so nice not to hear "we couldn't hear your vocals" all night after the show. Thank you Mercury sound guys! I screamed so loud I almost lost my voice, John rocked so hard he almost burst into flames, Rob played so fast that he almost tore people's faces off, and Karl hit the drums so hard he almost broke his foot.

It was an old school set with lots of goodies that we haven't played in a while, Stuck in My Head for one, and I gotta tell you it felt so good to play around so many wonderful people. Whenever I hang out with the pop punk kids in NYC I remember what it is I love about music- the fun, the energy, the excitement- and just the general good time that everyone seems to have. It's not about being too cool, or too hip, or too whatever, it's just about having fun and that's what we all did.

Afterward Mark and Jacob and Andy and I all danced to The Apers (who are ADORABLE btw) and the room was so packed when The Queers were on that we couldn't see the stage. Everyone was so sweet and so fun and so talented. It was just such an honor, like I said. I'm sorry, I'm just still in awe and can't stop smiling. :)

Moments of note: not one but TWO people got bounced while I was up front by the merch table- one girl presumably for filming when they tell you it's $250 to film. I'm guessing she didn't pay, but I can't confirm that. All I know is that she crashed into me as the bouncer grabbed her to throw her out and then was shouting that she wanted to talk to a manager, and that she was going back inside, and who knows what, all the way up until the police showed up. The other guy that got bounced was just for dancing a little too hard. No one likes a fist in their face... at least not in hip trendy Bowery Presents clubs... And the other sweet thing that happened was that Kevin from The Apers sang me a song. I was honored. Even though he was making fun of me (or so he said) it was so sweet and I appreciated every bit of it!

Thank you so much for coming out, to all our new friends and old, we had a BLAST and hope you did too. I don't think I've had that much fun on stage since... well... also in a long time I guess. And thank you for filling my head with nice new associations for Mercury Lounge, instead of the sad, stale, old ones I had before.

I just wish you could see the inside of my brain right now. Or even my computer screen. It's like thing after thing after thing after thing and then I remember for a second that none of it matters and my head starts to buzz and feel funny.

Do you remember when you used to wake up in the morning and things were just quiet and you had a second to just go with whatever happened at that moment- just follow it and see where it went and where it would take you. I was having one of those days this morning, but I got sucked into all this stuff that I'm now swimming my way out of and trying to remember my own advice to breathe.

How I Spent My Summer Vacation

I was outside today, on rare occasion, between my house and my neighbor's and just for a second it started to rain. It was the lightest, softest, kindest rain I had felt in a million years. It was so barely raining that I feel bad even calling it rain. But the sky was this shade of bluish gray, and the light was so perfectly dim I felt like nothing was real, and the temperature dropped about 15 degrees and for a second, just for a second, I thought, "I live in paradise."

I've been playing catch up lately. That and softball. I took August off to try to recoup and gear up for the fall and... I don't want to say that I haven't gotten anything done... but... let me put it this way a.) a band member's job is never done, b.) no one ever gets everything done that they want to, and c.) parts of my room are almost clean, so at least there's that. And the softball.

I started playing last month I think and I LOVE it. I haven't played in forever and I completely forgot how at first, but it's coming back. Slowly but surely. I even went to the batting cage Saturday and got a huge blister that subsequently ripped open on my middle finger from trying to remember how to hit. It was awesome though. Look out Wednesday's team!

As far as Stewart goes we've been writing a ton of new songs, I almost feel bad continuing to call us Stewart because we're so different from where we were when we started... but hey, it's a fine name, right? A good American name. And how would you find us if I suddenly started calling us something else?

We've got some new shows coming up, a block party in my hometown on 9/11 (also, incidentally, my brother's birthday,) and a benefit at Crash Mansion on 10/9. And a few more in the works that I am not at liberty to discuss at the moment, but they're there. Believe me, they're there. And I can't wait to tell you about them, soon!

Alright, that's all for now. I'm going to go back to listening to some music and digging myself out of this hole that is my bedroom. Until next time!

It's 3AM...

And I'm sitting at home. In my bed. With my computer on my lap. I promised myself, PROMISED myself, that I would just do a couple of quick things and then go to bed and now it's 3AM.

I had a really nice time tonight hanging out with my friends Jill and Geoff. We played dress up and got together a bunch of fun outfits for a photoshoot and I realized, or remembered, or maybe just enjoyed the fact that spending time with friends and being silly is just about the best thing that could ever happen in life.

I remember when Katie and Kate and Tracy and Cheryl and I would walk down to the pond by Kate's house singing They Might Be Giants all in unison, laughing without a care in the world. We did so much back in those days- coffee houses, camping, running around on golf courses in the middle of the night through sprinklers, and all of that without money, without drugs, without drinking, just with the simple pleasure of each others company and the idea that this moment, right now, was all that really mattered.

It's easy to get lost and feel hopeless and get bogged down with everything there is to do in a day. Everything that you HAVE to do and even everything you want to do- but, I can't help thinking about all the little things in my life that I'm so happy for and how all of those little things are really related to the people I love and have loved in this lifetime.

I miss everybody. And I think about you guys more than you can know. For the good times and the bad, I am and always will be forever grateful.

July 7th @ World Cafe Live

First of all- I'm so sorry to everyone who came out and had to leave. I don't really want to talk about that part, but thank you to everybody who stayed, thank you to everybody who came and couldn't stay, and thank you to all our friends and family just for being so awesome. We love you all!

Second of all- other than going on at 10:20PM instead of 8PM, last night was pretty awesome. :)

We don't have a permanent bass player. We haven't in a long time. We have a lot of bass players that we prefer working with (Jim who is on our new album KICKS, Chris who is just awesome, Ray better known as "the dude with the 6 string bass.") But tonight we played in Philly and all our regular bass players are in New York so we had to find someone new. That someone was Carter Fox. Yes, say it with me folks, Carter Fox. Because we had never met or played with Carter before, I set up a rehearsal in West Philly earlier that day not too far from the club itself.

Now, as some of you may or may not know I am a huge fan of The Dead Milkmen. A huge, ridiculous, die hard fan of The Dead Milkmen. The Dead Milkmen are an 80's punk band from Philadelphia that everyone in Philadelphia seems to know about but no one (or very few people) from everywhere else seem to know about.

So get THIS: I found this rehearsal space on Craig's list that was actually a recording studio. We show up that afternoon and we're setting up and the engineer/owner guy says something about a "punk rock girl" and I said, "I love being in a city where people know what that means" ("Punk Rock Girl" is probably The Dead Milkmen's only "hit". That and "Bitchin' Camaro") Anyway, so then he says, "You know they recorded here."

WHAT?!?!

Turns out yesterday I practiced in the recording studio, THE recording studio where The Dead Milkmen recorded their first two albums, "Big Lizard in My Backyard" and "Eat Your Paisley".

Now... that probably isn't really a big deal to anybody but me, but honestly, that was a pretty big deal. It didn't really hit me until later, but now I am PSYCHED! :)

Anyway- World Cafe Live. This place is AWESOME. We played upstairs and the sound is great, the bar is really nice, my pomegranate martini (thank you Jaime!) was awesome- all in all everything necessary for a great show. And the best part about it was that I was surrounded by people I love. Matt and the gang were front and center and we had a blast listening to the band before us. ("Rock and roll!") All the girls from work were dancing in the back (thank you ladies!) And my mom, aunt Louise, and mom's friend Sam were all quietly supporting from the side.

Again, thank you so much to everybody who came out. I'm sorry I was in such a funk, but thanks for helping drag me out of it! Nothing like good friends, good conversation and a little alcohol to make even the most stressful times feel like a breeze. I ended up having a blast and I hope you all did too!

Shakefire reviews KICKS!

It's not enough to blow your mind and have you confessing your love for the Brooklyn residents but it still turns a light bulb or two on. Maybe it's acceptance Andrea Tarka aims for. Although, the idea of irony in musical comprehension is pretty exciting. In no way is it a new idea, but it's definitely a rare one. In the beginning of "Ride The Wave", Andrea proudly claims "I'm so happy". At first, it's believable. That is, until she begins explaining why she should be happy, and it becomes apparent that she really shouldn't be content with her situation. This is a prime example of the great trick Stewart pulls on their audience.

Aside from the lyrics, not much more stands out as something by itself. And this is where Stewart finds it poison. Relying on the idea of female vocals over happy guitars is simply too insignificant to carry a band. While the praise I have given on the lyrics are 100% meant, it seems that the writers ( Mostly Andrea, although band members Kevin Cerovich and Jim Behrle each contributed a song on Kicks) never found their footing. They'd move from 7 tracks of heartbreak and then sing about a man named Mr. Awesome and the power of yourself. The songs by themselves are great representations of the band, but as an album they don't compliment each other. Something just seems to be missing.

But until the missing part is found, Stewart has plenty of hooks and jolly forms of disaster to please the ear buds and contribute a number of plays on your iTunes counter. Kicks can be purchased on Stewart's website. Be sure to catch them on their tour to World Cafe Live on July 7th in Philadelphia, Pa. Hopefully one day, Stewart will find themselves on tour with the likes of The Aquabats or Reel Big Fish.

June 20th @ Punk Island

Every year on June 21st there is a music festival called "Make Music New York," where musicians come out of every nook and cranny and play in every venue, every park, on every street corner, all day long, in all 5 boroughs. For the last 3 years there has been a special celebration on Make Music New York day called "Punk Island" where the punks over run Governor's Island for a special all day event. This year there were 130+ bands on 18 stages and we got to be a part of it.

It started with an email I got saying that Punk Island was booked this year because all of the electricity was taken- BUT there was plenty of physical room if anyone wanted to bring a generator, set-up a back-line and build a stage, they were more than welcome to do so. I thought, "You know what? I can do that." Judith (from D60) and I were on the phone- D60 was playing a house party in Philly that I was trying to get to and she was giving me directions.

Me: "You know- I was thinking of building a stage and playing Punk Island- have you heard of it?"
Judith: "The guy who organizes it booked this show! He's gonna be at the party!"
Me: "Oh that's too funny."

And with that, the RENEGADE stage was born.

That was how it all began. Jack, Dolan, Brett and Shane (also from D60, Dog That Bites Everyone and C Squat fame,) did an AMAZING job of organizing just about everything. I helped a little, (I did drive up state to borrow a PA, brought up my drum kit and bass amp, and rented the generator,) but it was these guys who really made it happen.

It was an absolutely gorgeous day. A little too hot maybe, but with the breeze coming off the water and the shade from the trees, we made out just fine. Situated at "Picnic Point," on the southwest tip of the island, we had an unobstructed view of both Manhattan and Lady Liberty. AND the air show that happened later that afternoon! I wasn't watching (I was completely distracted by something else,) but Kevin saw a helicopter do a flip, I'm not even kidding. It was pretty awesome.

Now, despite all the preparations, I have to apologize because I'm pretty sure if you didn't have my phone number on you you would have no way of knowing where or how to find us. We were on the absolute opposite end of the island from all the main festivities (a fact which completely bummed me out because I missed out on a TON of good bands, including my favorite- Trauma Team 666,) and there were no maps, no guides, and no directions to anything. So for the people who did manage to track us down, congratulations! And to those who tried- I commend and thank you for your efforts.

We had a pretty amazing time though. I can't tell you how surreal it was watching hundreds of done up, and I do mean DONE UP, dirty punk rockers come off the ferry carrying drums and guitars, 1 foot tall pink, yellow and blue mohawks, studded leather, chains, boots, plaid, piercings and face tattoos, mixed in with families of 4 breaking off the crowd and scattering as soon as possible. Totally surreal. This is why I don't call myself punk- THAT is punk.

There were so many good bands and so much good music, it was impossible to hear it all. Our first band was Jesus Knevil, followed by Team Spider, The Alienz, Dog That Bites Everyone, Wombat in Combat, D60 and then us. The Alienz are pretty awesome. A very Andrea band if you know what I mean. And D60 you KNOW are one of my favorites! Dog That Bites Everyone are such a great band, everyone was mesmerized and just sort-of gravitated to our stage to watch them. Awesome stuff. Jesus Knevil, Wombat in Combat and Team Spider were great too- I just didn't really get to hear a lot of their sets because I had to practice. Since the CD release party last weekend I haven't had much time to do anything really, including, you know, play my guitar.

Despite the 90+ SPF sun screen by the end of the day my back and all the other spots I had missed when I tried to cake the stuff on that morning were bright red, burning and starting to show. Never a good sign. We went on last and right before our set the clouds closed in. Perfect! It cooled off and the wind picked up- I have never felt more like I was in a music video than during that set. It was beautiful, the clouds, the breeze, the statute, the people- everyone stopped to listen and came over to dance, everything was just perfect and I thank you all for being a part of it with us!

Immediately after our set we had to break down. Nobody told us we had to have our cars escorted back to the ferry, the last of which left at 5:30 and it was 5:00. I have never seen so many people work so seamlessly together- car packed, van packed, escorts obtained, we were in line back at the ferry and ready to go! An hour or so later we actually made it ON the boat and were able to leave, but watching the procession of everyone getting back on the ferry was pretty great too. I saw Paul and Amy from Trauma Team, and watch Kevin and John get on the boat (there wasn't any room for them in car because of the gear so they had to walk.)

All in all we had a pretty awesome time and hope you did too. You guys are the best and we love you all! Stay tuned for Philadelphia in two weeks, then Connecticut, then Brooklyn!

Steal the Spotlight's review of KICKS!

Lets get the party started I mean this band started at a party, yeah that’s it. Stewart began when Andrea meet John at a party they were attending. Ever since they have been play music together. The band has played numerous shows in NYC and Brooklyn and played Chick Rockfest in Cincinnati. The band has released a full length album titled Jawbreaker and an EP Existing at Extremes. They are now back with another album titled Kicks. The lead single, which opens the album, is a theme song to comic “The Mighty Skullboy Army.” “Dance With Me” opens the album up with a blast of energy. It has a Green Day feel to it with the guitars and drums spinning you in circles while the female vocals give it a great vibe. The lyrics are as catchy as the music and will drill into your brain and stay there. The track could be more upfront especially the vocals. They are a tad to quiet and need to stand out more, but it’s still a fun song. “Consider Me Gone” kick up the vocals some. This time they don't shadow the music, but are right up there with them. musically I think that this is just as catchy as the opening track, but vocally its not. It doesn’t hurt the song in the very least as it’s a huge fun loving track that is twisted up by the lyrics. “Ride the Wave” opens up with Andrea saying “I’m so happy” which cracked me up because she sure as hell didn’t sound like it. It doesn’t have the energy as the first two tracks, but the sarcasm makes up for it. The track really will get you to laugh. “Goodbye” is a sweet track with sweet lyrics that I can hear everyone singing along with. The music is fun and is a party waiting to happen. They change up the tunes a couple times as it sounds like they get super serious then go right back to an “I don’t give a shit” attitude. They do start to start to repeat towards the ends which hurts it. “Gone” slows the album down to a heartfelt track and just seems to just glide along. It has the feeling that she is sitting on a bus looking out the window singing to herself. That is what I see in my mind when I listen to the track. It has that vibe to it. Speaking of vibes, “Same to You” has a sweet upbeat one. They kick the album back into high gear with a Warped worthy track with raw vocals and tunes that will get you moving. They do slow the track vocally for a bit with some “oh oh’s” then turn it right back up with a kickass guitar solo that will rock your socks off. “Aloof” is a weird, but fun track that has messed up lyrics that I can see everyone screaming at the top of their lungs. It is so strange it awesome that is just simple. “Who We Are” finished the album with another strange offering gliding along with a funky tone. Its short and sweet, but I’m not sure it really does anything. The bonus track though is the true finisher which wraps up the album the way it should be. Overall the album is okay. Its not spectacular, but offers up some great tunes for a party. They also would make a great addition to Warped Tour if that’s what fancied them. maybe they just caught me in a great mood, but this album is fun and funky at the same time. It is a party waiting to be let out of the box. The weird style is strangely entertaining, super catchy, and will leave you puzzled on why you want more. Stewart may have something going years after bands like Green Day and Weezer have perfected what they do. The quirky sound needs to be bolstered up a bit more, but this album is a step in that direction.

I am way past the point of sleep. The birds are chirping, the sun is out, I'm WIDE awake now, so what better time to talk about quite possibly the most epic Stewart show ever?

We got there just in time to meet Chris Neal outside for some San Loco- can you believe it's been what feels like YEARS since I've had San Loco? That's just wrong. On every level. 3 veggie burritos and a peanut rice krispy square for John and I to split (which gave me a wicked sore throat when I got home, but it was worth it!) and a Taco for Chris Neal. The evening was off to a beautiful start!

Now, just to give some background, I had been thinking about this show for about 6 months before it happened. Do you know how much time that is to think about something? It's enough time to get really silly ideas in your head, like, "how cool would it be to have a keyboard player? Even just for one night?" And, "Sure John, we can play Aerosmith and I can learn how to play all those guitar parts that I never play, it'll be fun!"

Our set was an hour. We started out with 20 songs, but bumped it down to 16- still, a healthy hour. We played our entire new album, KICKS, (on sale now on our website!) some old favorites, Adaptation for Andy who requested it, and some pretty awesome covers dare I say it. I'm pretty sure I get chills every single time I sing My Name is Jonas now. Chills. All over. I love that song so much more now that I know how to play it.

Thank you so much everybody for coming out and for dancing and singing and having such a great time with me. This is just the beginning and there are plenty more shows where that come from. Stay tuned!

I can't believe it's finally here!

In less than 24 hours we're putting on the most epic show we've ever done. I'm not even kidding. I am so excited about this show- words can't even describe how excited I am! I think I'm just in shock that it's finally here...

Stewart, “Kicks” (June 15^th)

Stewart’s appropriately titled album, “Kicks” kicks ass. The Brooklyn pop-punk band showcases their many talents in a span of nine tracks. Lead off single, “Dance With Me” asks listeners to “take a chance…and dance with me” something you’ll gladly find yourself doing to the energetic, fun-filled track. Tracks like “Consider Me Gone,” “Goodbye” and “Aloof” can easily play alongside any of the current top 40 hits on today’s charts. With their clever lyrics and references to pop culture it’s easy to predict that these guys (guitarist John White & drummer Kevin Cerovich) and gal (vocalist Andrea Tarka) will become this year’s breakthrough act.

Is this really happening? Do we really have a new website? *blink blink* I can't quite believe my eyes...

I haven't slept for about two weeks now. I've been holed up in my room with my computer and my books and my papers trying desperately to finish all the little pieces of this wonderful website that we've been trying to implement forever and ever, and now, yes, now ladies and gentlemen, I think, dare I say it, I am actually done.

Akoustic Mondays are like my new favorite thing! Seriously. Keith contacted us a little while back about doing a show and I thought it would be fun- I don't remember the last time I played an acoustic show and Stewart (for obvious reasons) never has. So, sure! Let's do an acoustic show!

I wasn't sure how it was going to translate, I wasn't sure it was going to work. But Keith said Kevin could bring his snare and some brushes and Andy was nice enough to let us borrow his guitar (thanks Andy!) and I think it went great! Everyone was so nice and I appreciate y'all listening to me sing all my quiet versions of songs. It's funny, that's how all Stewart songs start out generally speaking- me and my guitar, so it's nice to get back to the basics every once in a while. :)

Thanks again for coming out, thanks for eating food with us and chilling with us and for being you. I love my friends. :) And thank you to all the new wonderful people we met at Angels & Kings for all the kind words and show of support- you guys are awesome! We can't wait to do it again!

Hank's Saloon! D60! Wildlife City! Oh my goodness, what a night!

"I'm just saying, it's cold outside and I just wanted to make sure you know that."
"What are you trying to say?"

That my skirt was very short, and my shirt had no sleeves, and it was January and VERY cold outside. I didn't realize it until after we got outside that I looked kind-of (absolutely) ridiculous with my big huge puffy winter sleeping bag of a coat, my Farrah Fawcett hair, my tall black boots and my bare legs. But, surprisingly, I wasn't that cold. It reminded me of high school when I used to wear shorts in the winter. Ah heart fire. Good ol' heart fire.

I love Hank's! Hank's is like a regular real person bar in an otherwise completely unreal city. Very cool. We got there first and they were sweet enough to move the pool table for us. (Which I felt very bad about by the way- we would have played to anyone's pool game!) Our buddies from D60 were there because, well, they organized the whole event so they probably should be there, and so were all our bestest buds.

It was an old school Stewart night- some of my favorites from 2006, a couple off our new upcoming album. Plus we did a special Beatles cover for Kevin and Chris learned I Want You Back in 10 minutes as a request before we started. Go Chris! Attitude was, of course, for me.

D60 was AWESOME, as per always. I love these guys! Seriously, if you haven't checked them out yet, you should because they are one of my absolute favorites. And if you weren't lucky enough to catch them, you're sure to see them on a bill with Stewart again, hopefully soon!

This show was a fundraiser for Haiti and by the end of the night we raised $500! $380 for a group of NYU doctors and med students going down with supplies and $120 for Acupuncturists Without Borders. Thank you so much everybody for coming out and making all this possible. It's nights like these that remind you how beautiful and amazing it is to be human and feel connected to something way bigger than yourself.

Oh, my, god. SO MUCH FUN! I had the best time last night!!! Thank you everybody for coming out, thank you Judith for being born, and thank you to C Squat for being the most welcoming amazing people I've met in FOREVER!

Yes, it was cold last night, but inside it was nice and toasty. Toasty and dark, with one stage light shining on the stage and a crucified Kermit amidst a throng of graffiti on the wall. I felt like I was high, like in high school when you're hanging out with all your friends, dancing and screaming and just having a great time, seriously, seriously the best time in forever.

We got there for the start of "Dog that Bites Everyone" who are awesome and stayed through until "D60" took the stage. They are my second new favorite band! I'm having a great couple of months- first Trauma Team, now D60. I tell ya, this year is off to an amazing start!

December 4th @ Trash Bar

I like to think that the holidays are all about family and friends and spending time with all the people you love the most, and that's one of the many reasons why every year I like to throw a holiday party for all my friends where we can all go, drink, eat, and well, be merry. And that's exactly what we did!

I don't know about you guys, but I was just glowing that night because so many of my favorite people were all in one place. "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Dice" (Mark, Ryan and Green Andy's new metal band) were on before us and they rocked it! I was honored to wear a homemade NSNSND arm band that Mark made for me for the occasion. That's right, because I'm special. :)

It was a cover-ful evening, we opened with "All I Want for Christmas" which is my new favorite Christmas tune. (Let me just say we've been watching Love Actually non-stop since about November.) and I played a little U-Mass for Danny, Mark and the Hampshire gang in honor of the Pixies performance the week before. And I'll take any excuse I can get to cover a Weezer song... cause it's a holiday party. Get it? A "Holiday" party.

I also just want to give a special shout out to Trauma Team 666 who were there and who seriously, if you guys haven't seen them, are like, the best new New York band ever. They are just A-MAZ-ING. I can't even tell you. I've been trying to see them for a couple of years now and I finally got to and it was the best time! And also to Jacob Chabot for coming out- Jacob I know you are super f-ing busy and really didn't have time at all to do that, but I really appreciate you coming out anyway!

And to everyone else that made it such a special evening, thank you so much for coming, Carl for coming all the way from Boston, Donna for being my faithful warrior, and everyone else- we had such a great time, despite the cold, despite the crappy year, despite everything, having that one night to spend with all our friends really made it worth it, so thank you guys for everything. We love you!!!

Cornbread

Picture this: freshly baked cornbread, almond herbal tea, green carpet strewn with papers, clothes, ideas, loss, hope, denial, redemption, happiness, peace and serenity. Sometimes I feel like I'm the luckiest person alive and I don't particularly know why. I'm not rich or particularly stunning in any way, I don't have everything a person could wish for or want in a lifetime, I'm not enlightened or free of pain and suffering, I'm totally exhausted all the time. But I just feel like of all the things I could be doing, of all the people I could be, I'm really happy that I ended up here, doing this and being me. And I'm really thankful to all of you for being a part of this journey with me.

I've lost so many people in this lifetime, both literally and figuratively, we all have, such is life, but I just feel like there is a piece of each and every one of you in every single thing I do, and without you I could never have ended up like this. Cheesy- yes. True- also yes.

I love you guys. Thank you for sharing this existence with me. Hold my hand- smile, it's all gonna be okay.

October 20th @ Trash Bar

Wow. 1AM. When was the last time we played 1AM on a Tuesday? God, I don’t even know! It was a terrible time slot, but it just goes to show that I have the best friends in the whole entire world because you guys came out to see us anyway. Thank you!!! We had such a great time!!!

I was in Havertown Tuesday morning and my first patient was at 9am. My last one was at 6pm and I left by 8pm. Cruising along the Jersey Turnpike, listening to the set, trying to learn the words to some new songs we’re working on, thinking about everything under the sun, it was nice. Thankfully I got to Brooklyn with enough time to unload the car and breathe. But no shower or make-up for me! I was surprised that I wasn’t more exhausted. I thought for sure I was going to have to down some caffeine to make that show happen, but it turns out I was fine.

I was really pleased with everything- the sound was great, the crowd was great (again- I heart you guys so much, heart!) and you know I love Trash Bar more than anything. It was actually probably my favorite show of the year! And other than my chord breaking halfway through the set, I’m sorry to say I don’t have more to report, except it was one of those things, you just had to be there.

We’re actually taking a little break from shows though at the moment so we can work on our next recording, (that’s right!) December 4th at Trash Bar we’re playing the annual Stewart Holiday Party (our last show of the year) with our good friends No Shoes, No Shirt, No Dice, featuring some of our favorite people: Ryan D’Angelo on guitar, Green Andy on vocals and Mark Hugo on bass. As usual there will be an open bar from 8-9 and free pizza provided by me just as a little thank you to all my friends for being so sweet and supportive through the years. I love you guys.

September 25th @ Toquet Hall

I love playing in general, the more the merrier, bring it! ☺ What I did not love is that it took me 3 hours to get from Brooklyn to Manhattan (lucky for me I thought leaving at 3pm was way more than enough time,) and then another 2 hours to get to Connecticut. Screw you google maps! 2 hours and 10 minutes in traffic my ass! John took the train up because he had to work, and I picked up Kevin because he had the drums.

Despite the traffic it was a really nice drive, gorgeous day, good company. I don’t really remember the last time I was in Connecticut for something other than driving through. I think it may have been that Bouncing Souls show that John and I tried to go to at Toad’s in New Haven and we showed up about 3 songs away from the end. Oops! My bad.

Anyway, it was kind-of weird being back in Connecticut. That place was home to me for so long- I used to know every exit, every town, every back road, and it’s just so pretty with all the trees and the winding roads, I don’t know if I’ve ever been anywhere else like it. It triggered all KINDS of crazy memories of all kinds of crazy things I had forgotten from my childhood. Good in some ways, but definitely weird.

I was very proud of myself because after we finally found the place, I was able to navigate back to the train to get John and back to the teen center again, no problem. It was awesome! Toquet Hall is huge! Although I guess if you’re used to playing in New York everywhere seems huge. But it was a really great place- huge stage, nice sound system, pool table, foosball, snack/coffee shop- it reminded me exactly of Katie’s old coffee house that she used to run at Hawley Elementary School where my old high school band Tim used to play. It was AWESOME.

We started playing about 15 minutes after we showed up because we were so late. I don’t even remember the set because we didn’t even write anything down, we just started calling out songs until we ran out of stuff that we had practiced. It was so much fun, and everyone was so great hanging out and dancing. I told the director that we’d love to come back sometime if they ever have any openings, so keep your eyes peeled Westport! We’ll be back in no time!

September 24th @ Fontana’s

For all those who know me, I am a laughing stock among musicians because I know nothing about music. Nothing. I mean, I’m definitely better than I was. I can pick out Rolling Stones songs now, among other things, even though last night I did think that Jimi Hendrix was Led Zeppelin before quickly realizing my mistake. But for this reason, trivia has never really been a strong suit of mine, hence I’ve never really been into trivia nights. I get it- it’s fun, but not when you don’t know ANYTHING about the subject matter. Just saying.

So when John and I pulled up in front of Fontana’s to unload and my old friend Todd happened to be smoking outside because he was running his Rock Trivia night inside, I was excited to see him but not really stoked about the game. But you know, thinking maybe 3 years is a long enough time for things to change I decided to take a crack at it. John and I sat down with some drinks, my buddy Sean came in shortly thereafter, and then Donna joined us, for apparently the most kick ass trivia team of all time! We joined in 3 rounds late and only played 2 games and came in third! Go Team Stewart! Now, I’m not sure if that says more about us, or more about the other players, but it was pretty awesome, I have to say. Even though John and Sean got most of the answers, I got one (and Indigo Girls question. Yes- yes, I know,) so I helped.

Turns out two of the other bands of the night canceled, so still bouncing from our triumphant trivia win, we decided to play an extra long set. Awesome! So many people came, you guys are great, and it was so nice to see everybody dancing and having a good time. It was a very special night because we premiered a song by our good friend Jim Behrle called “Aloof.” He wrote it, posted it on youtube, we loved it and decided to put the music behind it- we practiced it maybe 4 times the night before and then Jim joined us on stage for it’s first glorious showing. Big hand everybody- Jim did a great job! (Feel free to check it out on our youtube channel.)

All in all it was a really fun night and I had a great time with each and every single one of you. Thanks for hanging out with me after. Next time we’ll play some pool too.

Another glorious day

When did life get so busy? I mean, I guess it always has been, but lately it feels like I'm on fire! In a good way, although it's hard to imagine such a thing feeling good.

Gosh, I don't even know where to start. I guess the best place to start is by starting over. I'm still in the process of updating everything, but for the moment most of the online activity is happening here:

Let me explain my thinking on these guys.

1. Stewarttheband is just a place holder for the moment to find everything: blog, videos, music, shows, tweets, mailing list (which is new- if you have signed up for the Stewart mailing list in the past, you may not still be on it, so if you'd like to know what's going on, but don't feel like checking all these other places, feel free to add yourself back on there.)

2. Facebook is where I'm trying to keep the major news- interviews, videos posted, new music, new shows, but just the basics.

3. Youtube = obvious. You want a video, you go there. I'm in the process of moving everything over from our old account.

4. Myspace I'm mostly using for the music player, the show calendar, and the post show blogs. But not much else. I send out updates when it's close to time for a show, but I don't do much else with it these days.

5. Twitter I update from my phone when I'm out, mostly to annoy John, but also just for silly things like the fact that the International Pickle Festival was crazy crowded.

And this blog is for me to ramble on and on and on like I do for anyone who cares enough to listen. I don't always have a lot to say about Stewart, but I generally have a lot to say about almost anything.

And there you have it! The new Stewart empire.

August 30th @ Trash Bar

Beloved Trash Bar, oh how I missed thee!

You know- I've played at like, at least 30 places in my life, right? Probably more, and no matter how many different shows we do and how many different places we play, Trash Bar remains my very favoritest. Yes, I know favoritest isn't a word, but it should be, if only so I can use it for the Trash Bar.

Ryan beat us to it and was in the back room setting up his hardware when we waltzed in. It was around 9pm and the music hadn't even started yet, so we decided to grab some beer and play some pool. Some nice pre-show chillin with the boys and girls out front before what would be the second longest Stewart set in the history of the band.

YES! We played for like, 35 minutes, UNHEARD OF! And, get this, the fun part is that these past few weeks were really busy with concerts and social outings and such, and scheduling was difficult so we ended up just playing on the fly. No practice necessary! I think it went okay, how about you guys? Did you notice? I shouldn't have said anything...

Thank you all so much for coming out- I've missed everybody so much and it means the world to me to see you all there, even if when I'm on stage I can't actually see you there.

I put up a new song! Did anyone notice? :)

My friend Jacob Chabot has a comic called "The Mighty Skullboy Army," which everyone should check out if they haven't already, it's AWESOME! And one day a long time ago I was like, "Jacob, I'm going to write a theme song for Skullboy," and Jacob was like, "ok." And not only did I write it, but we recorded it, and Jacob drew a cover for us, and it's called "Dance With Me" and is now available for you to listen to too.

Ah... THAT'S more like it. I've missed you. I've missed you all. And you know what? I've missed THIS.

So it rained on my beach party. Pretty typical really, but I'm totally okay with that. Dude, Connolly's is awesome! We get there and it's the converted downstairs of a Victorian house- very cool. Tiny stage, wooden booths everywhere, pina colada night- which, I didn't have one, but I had a pink lemonade instead, and it was very tasty.

We went on first, preceded by a surprise birthday party (I almost just spelled party- "partie," which shows you how sleepy I still am.) It was such a great vibe and I had such a fun time!!! I met a New Finland (breed of dog?) outside who's name is "Shamus." He was beautiful and didn't want me to stop giving him a spine massage. Next time Shamus. Next time.

Danny (formerly of Demetra) invited us. He's in a new band now, "Glass Pipe," and we love them. Good songs, good music, great set! Jamie of Demetra and Amy from Trauma Team were also there- what a party! Punk rockers unite!

We rocked the night away as a three piece- with special guest drummer Ryan D'Angelo. (We love you Ryan!!!) We played some new songs, we played some old favorites, we played some awesome covers, I played my first guitar solo (HA!) all in all it was awesome and I hope to get back there again soon. Maybe when the weather's nicer.

Last Piece for Now

It's been a little over 2 months now. John's dad just got out of the hospital on Monday and is back at their house. John and Leslee are still there taking care of him, but I'm back in NYC. (I just started my acupuncture practice! Yay!)

Things are getting better, just slowly. The last piece now is determining what his needs are and how to fulfill them. He is doing great, every day he gets a little more independent in terms of what he can do, but the doctors said he'll need 24 hour care, so they are just trying to figure that part out. And insurance. And therapy. You know, these things are always so involved.

Anyway, other than that we've written a bunch of new songs and can't wait to play them for everyone! I'll keep y'all posted as to when we're playing next. Thank you again for all the good vibes. We love you all!

Quick update for V-Day

Okay. Deep breath. Let's try this again.

God, where to start? It's been about a month since John and Leslee have been in Arkansas. I got here on Monday.

Their dad is out of the ICU, which is good. He's on the rehab floor of the hospital where he has several different types of therapy a couple of hours every day. He's learning to talk and read and move again. His right side is still paralyzed, but he's now responsive to everybody, can shake his head yes or no, and he's trying really hard to talk. He said "bye" to me yesterday and my heart sang. It was beautiful. We're just trying to take everything one day at a time.

Because of that we don't really know when we're coming home. The plan is that we're trying for mid-March, so another month. That will be about the time their dad is getting out of the hospital. But who knows. In the meantime we're trying to just take care of logistics and help their dad get his brain back. Nothing but good vibes and love everyone! Lots and lots and lots of love and good vibes.

As for the show on the 20th- we're not going to be there (obviously.) But if you aren't busy you should totally go- our friend booked the whole night and we're SO bummed we're going to be missing this one. I can't even tell you.

Anyway, I hope everyone's doing well. Thank you so much for all your love and support and prayers. We love and miss you all!

Good news everyone!!!

Yesterday was a good day, John's dad was doing well, last night things got a little ugly, but he pulled through and it now looks like he's going to be ok. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for all your thoughts and prayers and good vibes! We are so lucky and so thankful to have such wonderful people in our lives. Thank you.

It's going to be a long road to recovery, but we're all very hopeful and it looks like everything's gonna be ok. Life is beautiful! I love you all. Thank you!!!

As of yesterday he was not doing well, but that's all I know. Saturday and Sunday were supposed to be the critical days, but as of the CT Scan yesterday things were not looking good.

John and his dad are in my hopes and prayers though, and please I ask everyone, just think positive thoughts about health and wellness, smile and feel all the love you can possibly feel in this world.

January 16th @ Goodbye Blue Monday special update

Thursday night we were in a cab on our way to rehearsal and John got a call from his Mom that his Dad was in the hospital. He had a massive stroke and because of the post stroke swelling of his brain, was in danger of dying within the next few days. John and his sister were on a plane Friday morning at 6AM back to Arkansas.

Being the trooper that he is, he wanted us to play without him, which was way more difficult than I can possibly explain. I have only played one show without John since Stewart started in January of 2006. One.

So. When I got to Goodbye Blue Monday, I didn't really know what to say or what to tell everone or how to say it... so I just kind-of stayed in the back until it was time to go on. Al broke the news during the Angry Lemon set, which made it a little easier. We had to change everything around because without John there was about half the set that we couldn't play. It was like Spinal Tap where they're trying to figure out what songs they can still play without Nigel. Not fun.

Luckily, Al was nice enough to do an impromptu cover of In The Aeroplane by Neutral Milk Hotel with me, (we played it at his birthday party last year,) and the rest of the set we just cut a little short. I tried to sing all of John's solos, just to myself, because it made me feel better, but I think it went really well considering. Not the same, so not the same, but good nonetheless.

I talked to John today and he said his dad's starting to show signs of improvement. Fortunately he's surrounded by the people who love him and I really think it's helping to make a difference.

Thank you everyone for all your positive thoughts, kind words and support through this. I will keep you posted, but keep those good thoughts coming!

I haven't written about any of our shows for almost a year now... here's a little summary of what y'all missed (or didn't... you know who you are):

April 6th @ The Tank (Strand Band Party - Part 1)
I didn't tell anyone about this show because we had so many other ones around the same time, and I also therefore don't really remember anything that happened, other than good musicians, cheap beer, and good times. Boring, I know, but hey, what do you want from me? Some shows just rock and there's nothing more to say.

May 19th @ Trash Bar (Strand Band Party - Part 2)
All I remember about this show was Green Andy pretending to suck Romeo's c*ck during the "Our Precious Death Machine" set. Classic. That and John and I used our portable drums!

May 24th @ R Bar
John, me, Leslee, Will, the bartender and the sound guy were the only people at this "Lo-Fi Entertainment" booked show. It was awesome. I danced on a pole!

June 13th @ Goodbye Blue Monday
An intimate night with Stewart where John and I did a solo set, a duo set and some full band songs. It was very different, but very cool- somber, silly, and sincere. We plan on doing more of these acoustic-y shows this year just because they are so chill and fun.

June 14th @ Crafty Records BBQ
Whoa! I can't believe I forgot about this show! This was one of my favorites! It was a bright and brilliant day in the Bronx with great music and great people. It started pouring during our last song, everyone was dancing and it turned into mudfest, then Dan gets down on one knee and proposes to Reina (sp?)! I almost cried! It was so awesome! For all those who haven't been to the Annual Crafty BBQ, I HIGHLY recommend it. It's been a really long time since I've met such an accepting, wonderful, fun group of people. Next year everybody. Next year.

June 25th @ Lit Lounge
You kind-of had to be there... this one was another one of my favorites. Green Andy was our special guest bassist, we played with Lost Locker Combo who are AWESOME, I tripped over an amp and fell on my ass, danced in the crowd and screamed my head off. Special thanks to Seth for coming down from Connecticut!

July 4th @ Goodbye Blue Monday
We couldn't get enough of Goodbye Blue Monday last year! (Still can't.) They throw awesome parties with free food and good music. This cover heavy set was lots of fun. Hot dogs for everyone!

September 13th @ Knitting Factory (Belated Birthday Party)
A fight started outside the club, the police wrestled some guy to the ground and started kicking him, he flips the cop holding him onto the ground, then punches him in the face and is taken down by three more cops. 28 police cars and 3 ambulances show up less than 2 minutes later, shut down the street, block in my car, take the guy away and proceed to stand in groups of 20 on the corners for no reason after everything has been resolved. I was pissed-
"Excuse me, I know you're busy, but someone needs to move that car."
"A police officer was badly hurt and is on his way to the hospital!"
"I understand, but there are a lot of you and I just need ONE person to move THAT car."
And the douche bag insists on conferring with his buddies before moving it. Grr.

On a positive note: cookies (everybody loves cookies), awesome songs, my Mom came and so did Dave (all the way from California!) We had such a good time- Rachel, it's always a pleasure, Marsha, it was so great to meet you! Good times for everyone! Oh, and here's the other story I almost forgot- baking is a science apparently. I thought I remembered the cookie recipe off the top of my head so I tried to make them from memory. Who knew 1/2 a teaspoon made such a HUGE difference? Fortunately I realized my fatal mistake after the first batch and we had plenty to go around. Phew!

October 10th @ Red Star Bar (MEANY Fest)
During our set the bouncer got into a fight with someone who pinned him to the ground, covered the bouncers face, and the bouncer subsequently bit his little finger off. This actually happened, I'm not shitting you. Stewart makes people do crazy, violent things.

November 8th @ Passout Records
This show was awesome and totally renewed my faith in music playing. Pool and Burritos at San Loco, rain and beer in paper bags so no one would notice, good bands, lots of dancing, and tons of fun. Also of notable mention, The Pigs. Very reminiscent of Tim.

December 12th @ Trash Bar (Graduation / Holiday Party)
OMG! This was seriously the best time I had all year. John's family was there from Arkansas, people kept feeding me whiskey, Rancid and lots of other punk rock on the jukebox, and all of my favorite people from NYC in the same room! Who could ask for a better graduation party? Murphy's Law packed the place to the point where they had to open the double doors into the front room- you have no idea how many people can squish into Trash Bar. Beer flinging, boot stomping, lots of dancing and great music. Shiragirl is my favorite local band, and if I had it in me I'd explain how tiny the music scene in NYC is and how everyone is randomly, inconceivably connected.

Our first show at M.E.A.N.Y Fest is tonight! This is a voting situation, so please come out if you can- I promise you won't be disappointed. :) Here are the details:

Everybody (ok, not everybody, lots of people though...) has been asking lately- "when can we hang out? I miss you." And the truth is I MISS YOU TOO!!! And the answer to that question is TOMORROW!

Usually shows are really super hectic and there's so much going on and I have to get people and equipment home and all that good stuff, but not tomorrow. Tomorrow is a party. Maybe one of these days I'll sit down and revamp the last 20 shows that we've had that I stopped writing about. Sorry everybody- nothing personal. It's just that school's almost over so I had to start focusing on that a little more. Although admittedly my blog after the June 25th show at Lit Lounge was just going to say, "You had to be there." It was pretty fucking amazing, Green Andy was our special guest bassist, and Josh played drums for us, I had the BEST time that night but it was pretty indescribable. Other than to say we had a lot of people, a lot of fun, and that night something happened where this band became something bigger than it's ever been. In my opinion anyway.

But anyway, that's not why I'm writing. I'm writing because it's already halfway through August and our NEXT show is only a month away! And THIS one is going to be huge! First of all, it's our rescheduled CD release party- remember that CD release party we were going to have back in May at Luna Lounge? Well after that whole debacle we decided to take some more time, add 10 more songs to our album, and put together a show at Arlene's Grocery instead. The sound at Arlene's is the best we've had since The Continental, and if anyone can remember those days, those were some of our best and favorite shows ever! So, if you can't tell, I'm SUPER excited about this one. It's also serving as my half-birthday party. (Considering my real birthday party got cancelled and let's face it, it was a pretty big deal birthday! I think I deserve a little half-birthday celebration, don't you?) And honestly, more than anything else, it's just an excuse to have a party.

In honor of the occasion I just posted "Dark Side," off the new album. I'm pretty proud of it and I hope you like it too. John had WAY too much fun recording all the effects on the guitars.

Anyway, that's all for now. I have to exercise and get some lunch. That summer pizza and ice cream is really starting to take its toll... :) See you soon!!!

When I contacted the club on Thursday to make sure we were playing (because we weren't listed in The Voice or on the website,) I was told that "the club was shut on Friday with no sign of re-opening anytime soon if at all." There are some blogs/articles online that say it was temporarily closed due to a Department of Health violation and from the looks of their website they have shows scheduled from May 8th on. But then again, they had our show listed as of 2 days ago, so I don't know how reliable the website is.

It wasn't raining, it was POURING. Pouring. Johnny John and I decided to take the train, because really, who wants to park in Times Square? Sure it's possible, but it's Friday, and it's late, and it's raining and that's what's so cool about backlines and being a guitarist, you don't have all that much stuff to bring.

So we get ready, we hop on the train, we made set lists, everything's all good, we've got plenty of time until we get to 42nd Street and I realize- Shit! I have Derek's cymbals and snare in my car from the night before and I don't have my car. Damn it. John was nice enough to go back for it. "Start without me, it's fine, I'll just jump in when I can." Man I felt stupid. Fortunately (?) Kenny and Derek were also running late because they were driving (poor things!) and it all sorted itself out. John got back in plenty of time, Kenny and Derek found parking, and we all had a chance to chill for at least a few minutes before it was time to go on.

While I was waiting for the boys, I was lucky enough to catch the end of Positive Logic, an awesome awesome awesome band from Long Island. They had played with MuRR back in the day and apparently have been on hiatus for awhile now, so it was actually very lucky that I got to see them at all.

Now, I don't know how many of you know the story, but this show was a benefit in honor of April Ann Arcuri, the drummer of MuRR who died at the end of 2006 from injuries she got from a car accident. As you know, I'm particularly sensitive to stories about losing someone close to you, especially someone so young, so when the booking agent offered us the opportunity to play this show I was honored.

We went on last and managed to rock as fast as humanly possible because the show was running super late. My apologies for the feedback, apparently my band is too loud. Thank you so much to all our friends who came to say hi! (Collin and Dan of Victor Bravo, my buddy Joe who just had a birthday, Rich, Ben, Will, Leslee, you know who you are... *smile*) And to all the people who put on the benefit and to all the drunk people dancing and having a good time even though I know you were really there to see Mickey Harte, (boy do the ladies love him!) but I appreciated the screams and cheers none the less.

April 10th @ Sierra Grille Music, Northampton, MA

My best friend happens to live in Northampton. We went to school together and I love him so so so much. So playing this show was the biggest treat for me, not only because I got to meet so many cool and awesome people, but also because I got to hang out with Kristepher. We had lunch together and I got to see his new place (very nice!) and the rest of the day I spent practicing, trying to get ready, and hanging out at The Raven working on Johnny John's new scarf. (That is such a sad story, but he's such a good sport for being so positive about it.) Chris and John from Boston met us there around closing time and Chris had me cracking up because he said, "Yes, I'm the dork wearing the Stewart shirt to the Stewart show and I don't care." He's ALWAYS the one wearing the Stewart shirt to the Stewart show, and I love him for it!!!

After hanging out at The Raven I went to the Grille and met the gang. Mark who organized the event was SO nice! Him and the owner had dinner for everyone before hand so we can all get to know each other, and even though I missed out on the grub, the other bands were just so super- Curious Buddies (who I happen to LOVE,) Finn Riggins (so talented, so hip, so worth checking out,) and Rotary Club (more Brooklyn-ites! Small world!) I helped hall in the gear considering all I had was a gear bag and a guitar. Everone was nice enough to let little ol' me open, which was awesome, because I can't imagine having to follow Finn Riggins. Seriously.

So I got up there with my mic and my guitar and my lack of stage and sang my little heart out. About halfway through I pressed a button on my portable CD player and out came drums through the speakers. Rah! It was a little rough at first (thank you guys for laughing and being sweet and supportive and playing along! *smile*) but after the first song it sorted itself out. I finished up with Try So Hard, which was fun because we haven't played that in a while. Mark was nice enough to post Falling Stars on our comments if you'd like to see. I thought it was great! April 1st @ Goodbye Blue Monday

The second the car rolled to a stop pretty much the sky exploded and dumped a good bit of the ocean on our heads, soaking me very much to the bone. I wasn’t complaining, but then again, I love the rain. This was a problem for our amps though, as they were in the trunk and not so much in the love with the rain. It eventually stopped, and we eventually got them, but it took awhile for things to settle down.

When we got there it was packed! It reminded me of high school- back in the days when we would just hang out and listen to music and talk and drink coffee (or milk in my case,) and play games and be silly. When your friends got up and did skits and sang songs, and bands came in and rocked the place silly. Last night we got to be one of those bands.

We ended up going on last, which was just as well. The stage at Goodbye Blue Monday is awesome, because it’s the perfect size, just right for four people. We couldn’t really move, but man could we rock! We thought we forgot John’s gear bag, (even though it turns out it was just in the trunk,) which had his strap in it so he decided to rock out in a chair. Seriously, awesome. I can’t even tell you. It was amazing. My guitar was cutting in and out because I just had the switch for one of the pick-ups replaced and apparently it’s a little loose. Plus, I was coming out of a little tiny Marshall we brought, which is a bad ass amp, but has trouble competing with a drum kit. I didn’t even bother playing Stuck In My Head. No point.

I played a few impromptu openers while Derek set up the drums, no need to keep everyone waiting, and the rest of the band busted in with me at the end of Not That Bad, and then, well, then we did our thing. It was short set because it was late, but we really enjoyed playing it and it really means the world to me every time we do a show and people dance and get so psyched and happy.

Turns out Goodbye Blue Monday films their acts and already posted most of the show on YouTube! (Which is way better and faster than me doing it. *grin*) Rad! For your viewing pleasure:

Thursday night was full of great surprises! Not only was the place packed when we arrived, but my friend Amy from Trauma Team (who booked the first ever Stewart show) was there taking pictures for another band and agreed to take pictures for us too (awesome,) my buddy Sean from Nefarious Bovine Radio (who I haven’t seen in way too long) showed up, and so many of our friends made it out on such short notice. Thank you!

We found out we were doing this show on Sunday, hence the short notice, hence also why I was so surprised that so many people came! (I just like saying "hence.") We do miss playing in Manhattan and Arlene’s is a new favorite of mine- I had no idea that place was so rockin’! I mean... I knew, because I had heard, but now I know because it’s such a fun place to play too.

The vibe was just right, everyone was the perfect amount of drunk and happy and we just let it rip. I got to play my old guitar that I just got fixed, (the first electric guitar I’ve ever owned) which was awesome! I missed that guitar so much. About halfway through the set Iggy went nuts dancing and poured beer all over us and brought us all back to the 70s scene in the lower east side. For all those who haven’t met him- don’t be afraid of Iggy. He’s just trying to have a good time and cheers us up considerably. We love him.

We played a bunch of new songs from our newest recording and even one that is so brand new we’ve never played it before. It’s called "Don’t Know Why" and it’s my favorite. (But then again, the new ones are always my favorites...) I unfortunately didn’t see Tony and Mark there so we refrained from doing "Dark Side" which was, I admit, a mistake. Never fear! Next time we’ll make it happen, I promise. It’s such a fun song. :)

That’s all really. I posted some pictures from the show and a couple of the songs from our newest recording session with Kenny and Derek. Yay! I’m so proud of them, I think they sound great and I hope you do too.

We’ve got a bunch more shows coming up for everyone- April 1st at Goodbye Blue Monday. Which, for all of you who know her, our beloved Betty Racecar is moving to the West Coast next month and we’re playing this show as a going away party for her. So if you can please, please, please come out and say goodbye to one of our favorite people. She is such a sweetheart and will be severely missed!

We’ve also got our huge "Swing Into Spring" Prohibition Party May 3rd at the Luna Lounge. It’s a themed costume party with all kinds of great stuff including swing dancing, gambling, burlesque shows, great bands and more! There’s even a password for cheaper admission. How speakeasy is that?

We love Trash Bar. We love Trash Bar so much that we spend 4 nights a week there. (Little tip for all you Stewart stalkers, Trash Bar = the place to be.) Now, the traffic was pretty bad for a Thursday and although John and I weren't worried, my apologies to everybody who at around, oh... say... 7:50 was getting a little concerned that half the band hadn't showed. But we were playing by, what, 8:05? I even managed to put on some make-up!

So we get there and there were so many people already! And the back room wasn't even open yet. That was just great guys, thank you so much for coming out. Seriously, it means the world to us, as I've said a million times, and I hope that we make it worth it. And special thanks to Demetra- Danny, that shirt made me laugh so hard!

Did you have fun? We had so much fun! It's been a while since we've had a show, and we've been so busy with recording that it was really nice to get out and be on stage again. We opened the night with a little Dark Side, then went into some old favorites, an impromptu version of S'Anteria, (Drew, I blame you,) and some newbies, one of which is my new personal favorite. (Out of Ideas! Horray!) And then we were done by 8:45. That's how we do.

As for the other bands- Lame Drivers, I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to see you guys, but Joe you are a cutie, and Buttnaked Butthole who I also did not have a chance to see, their name is just fabulous so they get super points for that. The Fiendz completely lived up to their reputation as old school and awesome, and my apologies because I thought I saw them at Carlapalooza last year, but was mistaking them with The Festipals. (No jokes please. I'm bad with band names.) The Challenged- I just have to say, you guys rocked so hard and I had SO much fun watching you, thank you so much for being you!!! (And Happy Early Birthday Rob!) I'm so glad we finally, finally, finally got a chance to play together. :)

Guns and Roses were playing on the screen in the main bar as we were leaving, Sweet Child of Mine, Young Axel in the ridiculous black leather pants (I think we need to all chip in and get some of those for Johnny. Seriously.) That, to me anyway, was the perfect way to end the perfect evening. I love you all, thank you all for this wonderful journey.

Ha ha! Hello 2008! What a great year so far!

Well everybody, as promised, we have a bunch of shows coming up- one next Thursday, Feb. 21st, at Trash Bar with The Challenged, The Fiendz, Lame Drivers, and Buttnaked Butthole. This one is going to be great because it's only $6 and we're playing at 8 during the open bar! Yay!

Then in April we're playing Goodbye Blue Monday on Tuesday, April 1st. I have no idea what to expect on this one, but I'm excited! And yet another out of town show in Northampton MA!* Huzzah!

And then sometime this summer we're planning a huge theme party with Demetra which is going to be awesome. But more details about that later...

When I made my way into the back with the pizzas, make-up half done, gear unloaded, I was so happy to see so many people that I love and adore. One by one everyone showed up to the already packed room and it felt so nice to see everybody and have a chance to relax.

The MP Project went on first and man were they good. Solid rock and roll, nice and loud and danceable. And of course Demetra rocked after us. I've said this before and I'll say it again, Demetra is my favorite New York band besides us. They are SO much fun to watch, so much fun to dance to, I love Jaime's voice, I love watching everybody, Jaime, Danny, Mike and Federico. I love them all and feel really lucky and grateful that I know them. Thank you guys, for playing, for chillin' and for just being the amazing people you are.

Now, as some of you may have noticed we have a different rhythm section. About that, I just want to say first and foremost that Ryan and Saysha are some of my favorite people and I love them both to death. As with all great things, (and great people,) circumstances change and we had to go our separate ways. No hard feelings, no yelling matches, nothing personal. We are all still friends and I have to say that I feel really lucky and grateful for both of them and our experiences together.

Tonight was our second show with Kenny and Derek, two guys we picked up from Staten Island. They're awesome! (And cute too, right Isabelle?) Last weekend we had a "practice" show at Southpaw, (which was excellent by the way, as the four people who showed up can attest to! *grin*) I've got to give these boys props, we've been rehearsing together for about two weeks and in that time they learned a 14 song set and played two shows. Pretty impressive, right?

So last night, what can I say about last night's show? I was nervous. I'm always nervous. But when I sang Basket Case for my sound check and the whole room went silent I was in awe. I knew this was going to be a great night. It already was, but I knew it was just going to get better.

We opened with a mini version of Dark Side, "Changes happen so fast, leaving worlds behind, poetry meant to last, but the bright side is blind," then kicked straight into Guiltless. Then some old favorites with some new twists, (Without You and This Happens.) Untitled was our only new, new song this time. It's about 30 seconds long (not even,) and John played it on guitar for me. It goes like this, "Somewhere out there sits a boy, looking for a girl. All he wants is what she has, all he needs is her. In a quiet room she waits, in her bed she finds, something missing, stars uncrossed, he's all her dreams combined. That which you want, also wants you." That's been my anthem this year and it makes me feel so much better because it reminds me that when things are right, they are right for everyone. Beautiful really.

We broke into our cover of Santeria about halfway through. Kenny and Derek knew that one, (it happens to be my favorite Sublime song because I like to think that he really says, "I don't practice An-der-ea," which doesn't make any sense, I know, but I don't care.) And in the interest of fairness John and I decided that considering Derek and Kenny had to learn 10 songs, we should have to learn at least one. And there it was. John picked up that solo in 3 days. Not bad, eh?

All in all, I had a GREAT time, I thought it sounded amazing and I just had so much fun with the boys and with all of you. I want to thank everyone warmly and sincerely from the bottom of my heart for coming out. Thank you for dancing and for singing and Joseph, you get extra special props for being the loudest person there. :) This show has become a tradition that I really look forward to and I already can't wait for next year.

I just realized yesterday that I never wrote about our CMJ show. First, my apologies to EVERYONE, I thought we were going on at 10:30, not 11, not 11:30... to all those who came and left, I completely understand. To all those who stayed, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Speaking of which, the front row guys- you, YOU are the best ever. Not only were you so into into but you sang along!!! If I could explain how cool and awesome that is, I'd be a much more articulate person. :)

In honor of CMJ we decided to do a longer set this time, which for us is about 30 minutes. (Thank god considering we were running over an hour behind schedule.) It was fun- we played some new stuff, the usuals, and a never before played "Helpless," which I think went pretty well.

That's all I have to say for now. I have to get to class. Please join us next time at Trash Bar on December 1st for our Annual Holiday Party. This year we'll be performing with Mike Pacheco Project and Demetra and we are PSYCHED! Party, open bar and Mike Pacheco start at 8, Stewart and Demetra go on at 9 and 10 respectively. September 26th @ Knitting Factory

Wednesday. My day off. Sort-of. My day to do Stewart stuff, and on this day my Stewart stuff is to get ready for our show. I have all these rituals before shows, not like some people, but I like to take my time getting ready and this Wednesday was no different. I started it off by watching the Season Premier of House. (RAH! Wilson is the fucking bomb!) Then cleaned the kitty boxes. (So not RAH! Boo.) Then all the primping, etc. I barely had time to warm up, which was sad, but so it goes. Then biscuits and gravy. Mm... biscuits...

John and I grabbed the gear from the space and booked it downtown. There was a line out the door- not to see us of course, but it was still nice to see a line out somebody's door. It's good to know that people still go see shows on Wednesdays.

It was wicked early. We unloaded then went off to pick up pizza. I decided at the last second that I wanted to give out free pizza at this show. Just because. We all deserve it. It only managed to feed the bands and the first 5 or 10 people there, but still. At least it was something.

One by one everyone arrived. The Steinways, Lost Locker Combo, the pop punk kids, all our friends, everyone. It was so nice to see everybody and because we put together the whole night and there was nothing to worry about, it was also so nice to get to actually hang out and talk to everybody before hand! Seriously! I love seeing you guys, especially before I'm all frazzled and rocked out.

The Steinways were awesome as usual. Lost Locker Combo were just so impressive. I mean, what other band can you see perform and leave without a shirt on, covered in water, silly string, and chocolate? Saysha and Mark and I danced the shit out of that dance floor with Alexander and Brook. We started a mosh pit during LLC, like we do, and it was just so much fun. I was so tired, but it was so worth it. Did you guys have fun too? I hope so, I felt so bad, I stepped on SO many people! Sorry!

I've been looking forward to this show for a while now (as you all know,) just because it was our first real pop punk show where all the bands were specifically choosen by me, based on what I love about music- silly, funny, loud, fast, and awesome awesome tunes. This kind-of music reminds me why I love to be alive, or that I love to be alive more precisely. It was good stuff.

We had a whole new set in honor of the occassion. It was also Saysha's birthday (actually, her birthday was Thursday, but this was her unofficial party,) and we all sang to her during the break. Happy birthday Saysha!!! Happy golden year! We also debuted Leave Me Here with the whole band and this time I didn't mess up all the chords. Ha ha! I love that song. As sad as it is, it makes me so happy.

Thank you so much to everybody! I was going to list everybody separately, (or at least I started to,) but there were just too many people- so thank you ALL! I can't believe I'm so lucky to know so many fucking awesome people. Even though I don't know you all that well, I feel like I will one of these days. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

This was actually the best show I've had in a while. Only because of all of you. I mean, seriously, it's fun to play and all, but it's life affirming to play to a room full of your favorite people. You guys are all so great, the music was all so amazing, I just really felt like a part of something. And I can't thank you enough, but I'll try anyway. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are all so wonderful and I love you.

In August Saysha and I went to a BBQ in the Bronx at the Crafty Records house where we met a ton of really really really awesome people, one of which is a singer/songwriter named Brook Pridemore, another of which is a guy named Dan who owns Crafty Records. When they asked us if we would be the band at their Card Shop show, we were honored!

If you haven't been to City Island in the Bronx I highly recommend it. It's like another world; I don't even like the water and I thought it was beautiful. Saysha and Andrew and I got there first (Saysha was freshly back from her yoga weekend, and by freshly back I mean she had been home for about an hour,) but we didn't want to be the first ones there so we went to the end of the street to check out the view for a while. When Ryan pulled up we decided to make our presence known.

Dan and Reina had prepared dinner for everyone. It was delicious! They really know how to entertain. Little did I know that the only people there were the performers, so I felt like an idiot when I had to ask Paul who he was. Sorry about that Paul...

Brook and I went to get John and met everybody at the venue, Dan scored us a gallery called The Card Shop to play in. It was beautiful with art on the walls, a couple of big couches and a bathroom. He brough the PA and some speakers and we geared up our amps. Everything was just so nice and chill. It reminded me of the coffee houses I used to go to in high school. The fun awesome ones where all the local bands play and everyone is just so happy and into it. That's pretty much exactly what it felt like to me.

We played with Ivan Sandmore, Paul Baribeau, and Brook himself, funny because everyone else had a guitar and that's it, and there we were with our drums and amps and ear plugs. Ha ha! It's fun being the loud ones. But seriously, thank you so much to everybody who came out and danced- especially that kid in front- dude, I don't know your name, but you're awesome! Thank you so much!

If you like singer/songwriters, you definitely have to check these guys out. Ivan has such a beautiful voice. Ethereal almost. Paul blew me away, I swear. I spent all day Monday listening to his CDs. Brook too. He has this incredible ability to command a crowd. When we saw him at the BBQ he came out in the center of a ring of punk rockers with a beat up acoustic guitar, I so thought it was going to be disastorous, and he blew me away. He's so good! He asked everybody to come up and dance with him so Saysha and I did and it was awesome. I was singing his song the whole way home.

Anyway, that's all. It was a really fun show, parties are my favorite. Speaking of which, we have another one coming up this Wednesday, September 26th at The Knitting Factory- it's Saysha's birthday party! Yay!!! Please come. It's going to be lots and lots of fun, I promise.

August 24th @ Trash Bar

Home. Ah home. It's so good to be home. Thank you SO SO SO much to everybody who came out to welcome us back!

Now, it's not that I was tired. I had plenty of time to rest for this show after our tour (plenty being a relative term) and I was AMPED! Especially, especially because we had our new BANNER! Yes, Stewart now has a banner. And a kick drum head. We're so dorky, I love it. :)

It's not that I was tired, but personally I was unprepared. Just because after getting home I just wanted to do a show where I didn't need to think or worry about anything. And Trash Bar was that show.

We get up on stage and eventually I get my guitar in tune, the set list drawn out, and Saysha and John were nice enough to adjust my amp for me. We kicked in with good ol' Without You and we were back with a vengence! It had been two months since we played New York and we brought it up a notch, I'd say.

The funny part was, right off the bat, at the very beginning of the first song, I think the first part of the first chorus when my lip touch the microphone I got zapped like you wouldn't believe. I don't know if you could tell from the audience, but from where I was standing the lights noticeably dimmed. Then when I touched John the same thing happened. Less so, but still.

6 times. I counted. I got shocked 6 times by the 4th song. Apparently Saysha and John were getting shocked when they touched each other too. Ah!!! It's funny, don't get me wrong, but distracting as all hell.

After Falling Stars I let everybody know what was going on and asked the sound guy if he had any suggestions:

"...switch on your amp?"

August 18th @ Tritone

This was the longest leg. Detroit to Philly, no stops, rest for a couple of hours, then our last show. John was nice enough to DJ for me the whole way and after 7 hours or so just got silly and was playing all kinds of stuff: hip-hop from the early '00s, Poison (oh yeah,) and any number of random songs that I never would have thought of. Ryan and Saysha did their best to sleep. I made it most of the drive. I think we switched for the last leg at about 7 AM with an hour or so to go. I was super grumpy at that point. Actually, I don't think I was grumpy until we got to my parents' house and everyone woke me up. Grr! I don't like waking up! :)

We said hi to my Mom, I made everyone breakfast, then John and I went back to sleep. Do you see a theme? That must be boring to read but that's what tour is: drive, sleep, eat, play, drive, sleep, eat, etc. Not very exciting I'm afraid. I should have Ryan and Saysha write these bits since I was dead to the world. Can you guys fill in the blanks please?

From Saysha: While you were sleeping in Philly Ryan and I practiced yoga, (I was teaching him all week), got cheese steaks and reubens and Mallomars at the awesome Mrs. Marty's Restaurant.

The festival was so eclectic. MC'd by Jeff of South Street Sounds and attended by all sorts of people (including Christian and Terri, Kim, Ryan's Dad and my aunt, thanks guys!) we were preceeded by a metal band, an acoustic folk act, and a Dave Matthew's type band.

The show rocked. I opened with a solo rendition of Not That Bad while we were setting up, we got cut short because everyone was running over, which was fine, we wanted to go home, but in the meantime there was lots and lots of rock. Jeff kept talking about how we were from New York and picking on New Yorkers and I said something like, "actually, 50% of us are from here... so yeah..." It was funny.

All in all it was a great fucking tour I'd say. You were all great, we had a blast, I think we rocked pretty hard the whole time, and it was funny because despite the fact that my diet, sleep and lifestyle got all messed up for a week, by the end of the tour I got my voice back. It was pretty fun. Lesson learned, when you're sick, drink whiskey and go on tour. The perfect remedy.

August 17th @ Paycheck’s Lounge -by Saysha

Thursday night...Chicago to Detroit. Andrea hauled ass across the state of Michigan in seven hours, all hopped up on saltines and green tea. Ryan and I crashed in the back. I was dreaming of my Mom's house and all the good eats that we were promised. John did a good job keeping Andrea awake with iPod and conversation.

We arrived at my Mom's house in New Baltimore MI, which is a sleepy little lake town about 30 miles outside the city of Detroit. My Mom was super happy to see us. I was excited to be at my old house, but Andrea and John were exhausted, so they crashed in my old bedroom which is now the guest room, and Ryan and I went out with my family to the local diner to eat huge omelets and pancakes. PANCAKES!!!!!

Then we got back to the house and Ryan and I rode bikes all around my old neighborhood. It was really funny, just like it was when I was a kid, except a lot more fun now cause I'm a grownup person and not a pissed off kid anymore. There were kids selling lemonade on the street and the sky was blue and perfect and sunny.

Back at the house Ryan and I played Mario Brothers One, which is a lot harder than I remember, so we gave up and watched bad TV. Then Ryan took a nap and I read on the porch until the wasps bothered me too much. By this time Andrea and John were starting to get up and Ryan and I were now outside jumping on the ginormous trampoline that is in my Mom's backyard. Soon all four of us were on the trampoline. It is very hard to bounce on a trampoline with four people but we managed to have fun without killing each other.

It was almost dinner time. mom and dad made us steak and twice baked potatoes and corn! It was delicious. Ryan's piece of steak was as big as my head I swear. It was amazing. And he almost finished the whole thing. Even though it was bloody inside.

Around 5 o'clock my cousins showed up to party. We were running the set in my old bedroom, which was pretty surreal, but also one of those "beyond your wildest dreams" moments. When we were done we went to load the car again and mingle with the cousins. I really wanted to hang out at the house and play the show in the garage, but we had to go kick ass at Paychecks, which I've been dying to play since the days of my youth. So off in the car again to rock some more.

]When we got to Paycheck's we unloaded the van in the back. Ah, Hamtramck! The old stomping grounds! Hello urban blight! Hello crackheads! Hello Vernors in a can and everybody smokes like a chimney and I'm smoking even though I quit cause you can smoke ANYWHERE in Michigan.

Paychecks fucking rules. It's an old Polish Bar that is smoky with a pool table and Molson Ice on Draft with this huge ass stage which is as big as Luna Lounge. The sound is great, there is a 20,000 dollar lighting rig and SMOKE MACHINE. Very metal. All we needed was a mini Stonehenge and a bunch of dwarves prancing around it. (If you don't get that, please go rent Spinal Tap, come back and read this again....it will be funny.)

There was a slight misunderstanding about who would go on first but the staff at Paychecks really took care of us, once they heard that we had to drive 10 hours to Philly after the show. So we got to play first! Yay!

My family arrived as we set up. Nine o'clock rolled around, the light show started flashing, the fog machine fired up and we kicked off "Without You." Everyone was a little shy to get up and dance (the crowd consisted mainly of my underage cousins) but soon everyone was up in front rocking out. (Props to Jeff from Wool and Water for dancing and being awesome!)

After the show we managed to mingle, sell merch (with the help of my two lovely cousins Stacy and Stacy) break down, pack the van, take photos and say goodbye in under an hour. We hung out in the back alley of Paychecks with my family, who all seemed really excited and happy. My Mom was nice enough to give us gas money and peanut butter cookies. I got a couple cans of Vernors, one for me and one for Andrew when I got home. If y'all don't know the joy of Michigan ginger ale in a can, you haven't LIVED.

I was sad to leave but happy we could rock here and make such a nice memory. As we pulled away I broke out the homemade cookies and the Vernors. A fantastic way to end a great day.

August 16th @ Quencher’s

After 6 hours in the RAV we were hungry and looking forward to our $10 worth of free food and/or drinks which, turns out was a lie. $10 in drinks alone. N'yah! Curses! That was fine. It was 6. We went on at midnight, load in at 8. On the way in we passed a bar called "The Mutiny" with a sign in the window, "Band wanted, inquire within." Sweet! We can totally play a show before our show, can't we? Hells yeah! So John and I go in. I ask the pink haired, punk rock bartender, "Hey- I wanted to ask about the bands wanted sign. We're in a band. Can we play?" "Yeah, after you show me ID." Damn! What the hell is going on? It's fine, I don't mind, it's just funny. I give her my card and she gives me the schpeel- no slots open tonight I'm afraid. Ah well. Was worth a shot.

We broke up for dinner- John went for his usual checkin out the city walk, Saysha got some cheap Thai and almost got raped on the way back by a gang of locals, and Ryan and I parked it at the diner to keep an eye on our gear. I was still ridiculously sick at this point, so I thought I'd be gentle on my tummy with some soup and a burger. I saved my saltines for the ride that night.

After dinner Ryan and I went back to The Mutiny to give the cute girl our CD, but instead we found this big surly guy who looked just like the guy from Porky's. He was nice, he said, "Honestly, just keep your CD, I'm not gonna listen to it. Just call me when you're back in town." Nice.

Anyway. Loaded in, met the other bands, The Jagz were on first- they did about 50% covers? Or was it more? I'm the wrong person to ask about that but I was proud because I was the only one who knew the Power of Dreams song they sound checked to. Either way, they're a really rad band, drew a good crowd, kept everyone dancing and entertained. And their bass player was sick! In a good way sick. And their singer looked like David Hasselhoff, only cooler.

The Lusties were fantastic! I got spit on 3 times and slightly molested by Edie. Great songs, drunk and belligerent. Beautiful. But seriously they were the sweetest sweetest band and I just want to extend a warm and sincere thank you to them for hanging out, letting us use their gear and jump on the bill with them. If you can, check 'em out. It's worth it, I swear.

The stage was tiny but John still managed to make his rounds. I was really feeling that show, if only because I was in a great mood. Yay tour! We cut it a little short because we had a 6 hour drive ahead of us, but everyone was nice enough to request an encore. We did two. Not That Bad and when they asked for one more, "Come on! Even just 30 seconds!" we played No More Jealous Girlfriends. Killer.

Afterwards we packed up pretty quick, gots me some green tea and crackers and off we went, but more on that later...

August 15th @ Bernie’s -by John

We woke up around ten in Pittsburgh. After repacking the car and eating we headed out for Columbus. On the drive there we kept ourselves entertained with my portable DVD player named Coby. We named him Coby because that is the brand of DVD player he is; pretty clever of us. We plugged him (Coby) in to the car stereo so we could all hear the same thing and watched "Harold & Kumar." Coby was good to us. He allowed us to laugh and have a good time with toilet humor and pot jokes while working his ass off to keep that disc spinning.

We arrived in Columbus at about 3 in the afternoon and went straight to my friend Oli's house to get our heads straight before the show that night. Oli wasn't at home so we walked up the street to find her in the craft store she owns and runs called Wholly Craft. This place rules. It's full of tons of handmade crafts for a million different tastes. Handmade shirts, skirts, wallets, photo albums, you name it.

She gave us the keys to her house and told us to make ourselves at home. On our way back we took a short detour up High St. to Kroger to get some eggs so we'd have something to eat the next morn. While we were there Ryan bought a sweet 3 piece Elvis Pez dispenser set for a friend of his. They were beautiful.

When we got to Oli's, Andrea got to work on some of the projects she had to get done for her job. Ryan, Saysha and I took Oli up on her offer to make ourselves at home and proceeded to thumb through her record collection in search of something enlightening. After finding Boston's first record and throwing that on we had an impromptu interpretive dance session. The perfect way to balance our heads before a show.

At about seven we left Oli's to go scope out the venue, Bernie's. This was the one stop on the trip we were a little unsure of because Bernie's had never technically got back to us with a confirmation on the show. When we got there we undertsood why. This was the most laid back little rock bar ever. The bartender was really nice and just told us to set up and play when the feeling was right. So easy. We took our time setting up our gear, including our kick ass custom Stewart kick drum and waited till we all felt comfortable enough to get started. My friend Chris Burney played a solo set before us which kicked ass. It was a Wednesday night and the bar was pretty slow (our huge Columbus following must not have heard we were playing, or thought it was on a different night!) but Chris was still cool enough to get up there and rock it for us.

Since the only people in the bar were us, three of my friends (thank you Oli, Sarah and Matt), and a couple of local punky lookin' kids we all just took over the bar. We had full control of the stage and pool table. Pretty kick ass, really. After we were all satisfied with our pool games and our respective buzzes, we decided to play. Columbus dared us to rock, and shit! did we rock. It was one of those nights we opened with Dark Side, so right off the "audience" could sense this show was something special. It was. We started in mean and loud and didn't stop until our encore, which was The Misfits "Saturday Night."

August 14th @ Bloomfield Bridge Tavern

We didn't have a venue lined up. Or a show. I called Tommy and asked him if we could do a renegade show somewhere on the streets of Pittsburgh. We had to bring all our gear and I knew he had a generator, so I figured, why not?

He was all for it, went around to a bunch of local clubs asking if we could play, (the response to which was an overwhelming no,) but lost steam after one particular rejection that kind-of killed it for him.

So be it.

We got in at 9:15 or so, had some delicious chili and I decided it would be a good idea to do a solo show. Just because. "I'm playing Pittsburgh dammit!" We found a spot that was open and not too far, I called to make sure it was still going on,

"Yes, but it's 21 and over."
"Oh, that's no problem. Can I still sign up?"
"Uh... you sound underage."

Awesome. I love that even on the phone I can't sound like a grown up. :)

We loaded up the car, guitar, pedals, CDs, and made it over to the club. Pittsburgh is BEAUTIFUL. We got a little lost and drove around some hills, surrounded by trees, overlooking the river, and the bridges, and downtown. Seriously. Good stuff.

When we finally made it we couldn't have asked for a cooler crowd. Everyone was really drunk and happy and into everything. There was a four piece blue grass band on before us that was AWESOME! Mandelin, violin, banjo and guitar, with their friend Josephine dancing her heart out on stage. It was so fun and such good music- ending with a Brett Michaels tribute! Hilarious!

I'm really sick (as some of you heard before we left,) and I'm so glad we did this because when I started warming up outside, I realized... I couldn't really sing. ! It's ok, I got my voice loosened up a bit, (what's left of it,) and tuned my guitar. I was really nervous because I was by myself and my guitar sounded weird because it was plugged straight in, no distortion, no tuner, but everyone was so nice and so supportive.

John came up and played Guiltless with me. He was jumping around (as per usual,) and the guitar came unplugged halfway through the song. I started clapping the drum beat and everybody joined in until he was able to get it working again. It was beautiful.

I love Pittsburgh.

It was a gorgeous night all around, the perfect start to a great tour.

Remember, tell your friends, tell your family, we're hitting up the following cities in the next few days: Columbus, Chicago, Detroit, and Philadelphia. We're poor and can't do this very often so come get your Stewart fix while you still can!

Hey everybody!

We want to play in CT! Why? Because we're from there (sort-of) and we work there (sort-of) and we miss you and want to play for you and have lots and lots and lots of fun together. :)

Now, the only problem with this is finding a place to play. I just found out Husky Blues is closed (!) and Toad's and Webster's won't talk to me. Does anybody know of any venues that host pop punk bands? Parties, teen centers, I don't care, whoever will have us, we just want to play! Or other bands in the area that we could play with that would go with our sound?

Please let me know if you can think of anything. Even just lists of possible venues in our favorite towns (Danbury, New Haven, Hartford, Storrs... ) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everybody!!! Talk to you soon...

Thanks for coming out tonight guys! Especially after we just played 3 days ago, that was really sweet. Cake Shop could not be any more different than Luna Lounge and tonight was just supposed to be a fun show for all of us. (That includes you.) And I think it worked out ok.

We played some stuff we haven't played in a while, John broke a string, I played half the set with my fingernails after dropping and destroying two picks, Saysha couldn't really jump up and down or she would have hit the ceiling (but God bless her, she did her best) and Ryan had no incidents of which to speak. (That I know of anyway.)

We played with The Ingenues and Screaming Females. Good GOD they are good! Screaming Females are touring right now and they are just fucking incredible! I highly recommend both checking them out and buying their CD. It is awesome.

That's all I guess. Pretty fun night.

June 21st @ Luna Lounge

Wow. Last night was one of the best nights I've ever had. I had a BLAST! How about you? Did you have fun? I hope so. That was just ridiculous. :) Thank you so so so much for coming out! Thank you for coming out, thank you for supporting us, and thank you for being part of this incredible journey with us. I really do appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. That was so far the biggest turn out Stewart has ever had!

When John and I went to check out Luna Lounge last week, I was really awed and intimidated, but in a good way. "This place is HUGE!" I had NO idea it was going to be so big. We had a dressing room and a back stage entrance and everything. Kind-of like Mo Pitkin's, only it wasn't a bathroom/backline storage/closet, it was an actual room. Nice. That was kind-of fun. *grin*

I love Demetra. I want to play with them all the time, I can't even tell you. SO SO SO amazing. Not only do they have great songs, they are performers. I was so impressed and again, in so much awe, it was ridiculous. Don't be fooled, their myspace page does not do them justice.

This time we had a real merch table in honor of our real CDs run by one of our people, the lovely Ms. Leslee White, who, give the girl props, went all out and did a great job manning her post. Speaking of props, thank you to everybody who bought CDs!!! We really hope you like them! Feel free to let me know what you think of them. And thank you to the cuties who asked for autographs. You guys are sweet. :)

Oh, speaking of CDs, the deal with Jawbreaker is this: I made a bunch before we went to Ohio in April, but they weren't mixed yet. We got them mixed and I was making a bunch yesterday before the show but didn't have time to make new back covers with the updated track list. (We changed the song order.) So if you bought Jawbreaker and were wondering the actual track list is posted in the blog before this. It should automatically come up on your computer, but if it doesn't, don't worry, you can find it here. To the 12 people who bought Jawbreaker before last night, you have a very rare copy that no longer exists, please feel special. :)

Anyway, we're playing again this Sunday, June 24th at Cake Shop at 10:30 with: The Ingenues and Screaming Females. We've got another fun, silly set planned that is nothing like last night's show so you guys won't be bored. (*hint* Dark Side, That Girl, Real Dreams *hint*)

In other news we're working on our store front and Stewart merch will soon be available online for all our friends who live far far away. We also might be touring the Midwest in August. (I know, Florida, I know, I'm working on it, I promise. *grin*) More on that stuff later though. I'm tired and in dire need of a nap.
